About three weeks ago, I had this overwhelming urge to watch the movie Rushmore. Wes Anderson movies are my personal kryptonite. I'm one of those people. I made my old roommate, Lauren, and her (now) fiancé watch The Royal Tennenbaums with me about a year ago and they both looked back and forth between me and the screen with looks of utter confusion. I don't blame them. I know I have weird taste. I think I Heart Huckabees was genius, and like, four people like that movie. Counting me.
Anyway, whenever I'm having an existentialist crisis, I am immediately drawn to Jason Schwartzman. His characters always speak to me. So when I came across this article on HuffPo today, my life suddenly made sense. 15 Times You Just Need to Watch Rushmore? I was hitting at least 12 of them.

I think a lot of people are thrown off by Anderson's movies because they're kind of like the Seinfeld of film. Completely, utterly, ridiculous movies about ordinary people in extraordinary situations- and we go to the movies to escape. Not to be reminded of the mundane. Like I said earlier though, I am weird. Sure it's nice to see the fantasy life (hello, who likes Gossip Girl more than me?), but when you're in an emotional state sometimes you just need something relatable- and Anderson will always give you that. Being in love with a teacher in high school? Disfunctional families? Being 'that kid' who just doesn't quite fit in? And they're always accompanied by excellent musical scores and incredible acting. If I wasn't allowed to watch any other director ever again, I was pledge my allegienace to Wes Anderson, right now, without pause.
Speaking of Wes Anderson, let me take a moment to introduce you to possibly the best Tumblr ever created: Kanye Wes. It's a mashup of Wes Anderson movie stills and Kanye lyrics. Pure genius, and I wish every day I had thought of it. Here's one of my personal favorites, starring Jason Schwartzman of course:
And finally, since we're on the Kanye/Wes Anderson train. This video mashup is wonderful.
But seriously people. Go watch some Wes Anderson movies. If you need to ease in, I suggest Fantastic Mr. Fox or Moonrise Kingdom.
