I think everybody knows three very obvious facts about the South: It's hot, and we like tea & America. So it's no doubt we love #AmericasTea, Bigelow! My inner yankee is a little different than most of my peers in that I despise sweet tea, though! I am a purist. I love tea- so much so that in college, I worked part time in a tea shop slinging some of the finest teas from around the world. Not only am I a certified "Tea Expert" (seriously, I had to pass a test) but I am also obsessed. Please observe my shelf:
Summer is a crazy busy time for everyone from work, to travel, to relaxation, we're always trying to fit in as much as possible. One of my favorite things about tea is that you can always dodge that pesky "no beverages through airport security" rule by packing your own tea bags. Of course, when I have a little more time (and the option to pack more than three ounces!) I like to have a pitcher of delicious sun tea ready to take with me on the go, any and everywhere. Enter: Bigelow Pomegranate Lemon Sun Tea On The GO.
I picked up a box of Bigelow Assorted Teas on my last trip to Walmart, along with a case of Ball Mason jars. Bigelow is one of my favorite tea brands out there because they're the ONLY makers of Constant Comment, a staple tea in my household when I was a kid. Another fun thing about Bigelow is that they're American made, which is really uncommon with teas. Most come from all over the world. Their "neighborhood locale", helps keep it fresh!
What I love about sun tea is how easy it is to make- just pop some tea bags in a pitcher (I did six because I like a LOT of flavor) and set the pitcher outside!
While I waited for my tea to steep, I got out my tools and got to work on my "to-go" beverages containers. We love our mason jars in the south, and I thought they'd make a perfect (and pretty!) way to sip.
I don't even really think I can call this a DIY. All that's needed is a hammer, phillips head screwdriver, and a straw! The lids are thin enough that it's super easy to hammer a nice slot in the lid, perfectly straw sized!
With my tea finished steeping, I grabbed some ice and a straw, and was ready to rock. If you are a sweet tea fan, it's best to add your sweetener BEFORE adding ice- it's easier to dissolve the sugar (or my favorite, agave nectar!) in the warm tea.
Yum!
The best thing about the mason jar is that it's easy to take anywhere, in the car, to work, or my personal favorite: to the pool!

At our summer farmer's market, there is an awesome tea vendor. You buy your mason jar (just like yours) at the beginning of the summer for like $5 and then your refills are $3 all summer long. Love sun tea - no energy needed. Home Goods is a good place to find lots of teas - I LOVE Yogi tea (sold at Trader Joes) because each bag has a fortune :)
ReplyDeleteThat's amazing! They need to do that at Piedmont!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you mentioned Constant Comment (my all time favorite.) Andrea has a favorite now,Yogi Egyptian Licorice, of course with her nothing surpasses Coffee.
ReplyDeleteI still haven't made Sun Tea with Bigelow Tea, but you've totally inspired me! I also love your jars...my kids would love to drink out of something like that.
