I don't know about you guys, but sometimes I just really, really, need to feel some sand between my toes. Until I moved to Atlanta, I have always been a short drive or walk from the beach (yes, even in Idaho). My parents grew up in Florida, and I lived there until I was five. We had a beach house on the gulf, and went (it seemed) every weekend to the beach. We'd build sand castles, sit on the roof and watch the tide go in and out, find shark's teeth, and occasionally, my brothers would surprise me with a crab in the swimsuit. Even after we moved to Idaho, we went back every summer to Entropy, our beach house, and it has always been a special place for my whole family. My grandmother grew up going there with her parents, then my Mom with her family. My parents got engaged there. My best friend/adopted sister Ingrid started visiting with us when we were in middle school, and when we all graduated from high school, Ingrid, Hayley and I spent two weeks there. The beach house will always hold a special place in my heart- especially because I think it really shaped who I've become as an adult.

To paraphrase from one of my favorites movies, "whenever I feel gloomy with the state of the world, I take a trip to the ocean". The past few months have been full of their ups and downs, and last week, I knew it was time for a break. I needed my best friend, and I needed to breathe in some saltwater. So on a whim, I booked a trip out to Los Angeles to visit my BFF.

Coming home to Atlanta was bittersweet. It feels nice to be home, but I know, deep down, that my real home is always going to be somewhere near the ocean. I'm not sure how long my tenure in the South will last, and I have no idea what I'm doing with my life, but I know that the next time I move, it's to the beach somewhere. So at least I've got a little something figured out.
One of my favorite Beach House songs- about the Sea, no less
I feel the same way about the beach. There is something about the way your body just relaxes.
