Scamming Craigslist Scammers- Hilarity Ensues

This is real, you guys. You can't make this up. My friend is in the process of searching for apartments, and has been frantically searching the internets for a spot. I LOVE finding people apartments (just not myself, ew) so I have been looking/emailing on her behalf. Of course with Craigslist, you're always going to come across scammers, but some of them are astoundingly stupid. Don't believe me? Please observe this exchange:

Hi!
Is this apartment still available? Can you let me know the exact location and what utilities are required? Thank you!

Hello,

I hope things are good. The good news is that the apartment is still available! We thought we had the place leased to a couple we showed it to today, but now it seems that they changed their mind, so we need to lease it as soon as possible. You were the second one to email me about it.

I am sure you will want to do a personal showing of the property, but my husband doesn't want me to advertise the address as a measure of safety. Last time we did that without verifying people, the empty property was broken into and vandalized. We don't want that to happen again! You will be responsible for cable, internet, and phone, if you decide to have these services. Just to confirm, we DO allow pets at this property. The rental term is 12 month lease, but can be switched into a half year term if preferred. We require one month notice before moving out, as a courtesy.

When you're ready to schedule an appointment to see the place, then please go to the link below to grab your free credit score. We use this site for all the properties we manage since it's free through Transunion. Just fill out the form and indicate that you want the score. What is in the report isn't important to us, it's more of a formality to have it on file, to make sure there are no previous property related issues. You can get your free credit score at CLICK HERE

Remember, we only need to see the page about the rental history. That's all we need to see at the showing. We'll waive your security deposit if your score is above 560+.

Once you let me know that you have your credit history ready, then I'll personally schedule a showing of the place. Once you see it, you'll fall in love!

Thanks again,
Amy Ruth

Sure thing. This looks like a great deal so I'm very excited to send this over to you. One quick thing though- I have a really great credit score. Like almost 800. However, I could still easily break into an empty apartment. It wouldn't really be that hard. But why would I break in if it's empty? There's no point if there's nothing to steal, amirite?  Is there some kind of correlation to people's credit scores and their tendency to commit felonies? If so, could you send me a link to the study? Also, a credit score of 560 is pretty pathetic. You'd really waive a security deposit for a score that low?  Since mine is so high, could I rent the apartment for like, half the price? That seems reasonable, doesn't it? Let me know what you think.  Also I know you said pets are allowed, but just to confirm, is a shark tank acceptable? It's only about 14 sq feet, for a small shark.

If you're ok with all of this let me know, and I'll go ahead and send you that credit score info. I await your confirmation.
Thanks!

That is very impressive that you have such a high credit score. I will have to discuss the situation with my husband, but I believe that he would be willing to lower the rental price if your credit is so high. We are looking for a good renter, after the last couple fell through. I believe a fish tank would fit ok in the apartment, as it is very spacious,so that should be no problem. Oh. Ok Amy Ruth. Let me just go ahead, grab my pet shark, and send you my credit report. BRB, I'll send you my CC# too.

I love the internets.
