I will be the first to admit that I'm somewhat of a makeup snob. I don't do drugstore brands, except for in the case of trendy eyeshadows or something, but never for an everyday-wear product. I have absolutely no problem going in public without makeup on, however. Unless I'm going to work, I don't feel the need to "put on my face". The one thing that I can't live without, however, is mascara. Actually, I am somewhat of a mascara connoisseur. In high school, my friend Tess and I had a motto: You can never have on too much mascara. A decade later, I still find this to be true. I have long eyelashes, but they are very, very blonde and basically invisible.
For the past four or five years, I've been using Clinique's High Lengths Mascara. I've strayed a few times, trying out must haves like "They're Real" by Benefit and "Lights, Camera, Lashes" by Tarte, but I'm always been disappointed and returned to my Clinique. For only $13, it's a great deal! That said, because I'm a lunatic and need more mascara than any normal human being, I usually layer this with whatever free sample mascara I have lying around (currently: Estee Lauder Double Wear, which came in my adorable gift with purchase Lilly Pulitzer cosmetics bag).
Since I recently ran out of my mascara collection, I headed to Sephora on a rainy day with my friend Mal. I love Sephora because everyone there is super helpful without being obnoxious. Anytime I've gone in unsure about what I wanted, I've always gotten a ton of good advice and left with a product I'm truly happy about. This time was no different. I went in, set on trying a Tarte mascara. After talking to one of the awesome salesgirls, she told me about a new product. Enter: Too Faced- Better Than Sex (Sidenote- why must all good makeup be given pervy names? Orgasm blush, I'm looking at you).
I think this may actually have been my first Too Faced purchase, and oh my goodness- this stuff is incredible. No longer do I have to use two different types of mascara. After one layer of Better Than Sex, my eyelashes looked a mile long. After three layers, I was basically sold for life. In case you needed some visuals:
Without makeup- see? My eyelashes are basically invisible
Step 1: Eyeliner. I use Stila All Day Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner. It stays on all day, and is easy to put on. I'm not exactly coordinated, but the felt stye pen works really well.
Step 2: A quick layer of black pencil on my lower waterline
The Better Than Sex brush is awesome. The formula feels a little bit different than most, almost stickier. I love how it goes on, and the best part is it's easy to take off at the end of the day with some makeup remover.
Step 3: Here we go!
After two layers. I know, you want these lashes.
Seriously, awesome.
The finished product. I actually look awake!
Overall I am THRILLED with this purchase. I will definitely be buying this stuff for years to come. What are your mascara must haves?
HA you caved and told everyone your secret =0)
ReplyDeleteBuxom mascara has several different brushes, this has been recommended to me by several of my teacher friends who feel about mascara the same way you do. You can get this at Sephora.
