Day 8, Wednesday: A piece of advice you have for others. Anything at all.
So I have two. I can't pick one. Deal with it.
#1
Learned this one from my girl Oprah. In my first big girl job, I was basically her righthand man nameless freelancer, and I was impressed every single day by how she ran her company/business/life. All of those rumors that she's actually really mean? Total BS. She works harder than anyone you've ever met. Sometimes, the dark circles under her eyes could house a small family of prairie dogs. But no matter what, she put every ounce into making each show perfect- and after it was over, she'd thank every single nameless employee involved. If I can work 1/4 as hard, and be 1/8 as nice, I will be more successful l than I can even imagine.
#2
My grandma always tells me to be pleasant no matter how awful someone is to you. She told me this while we were crawling through a crosswalk, and some jackass honked at us. (Hi, she's 89- she's allowed to walk slow. And PS, you're in the world's smallest town in Idaho, pretty sure you're not in a huge rush to get anywhere.) I was ready to unleash my 5'2 fury on this townie. Instead, Grammie smiled, waved excitedly, and said "Oh hello!" and then continued at her glacial pace. Tell me that guy didn't feel like a total douche. Lesson learned? When life hands you something shitty, make it sparkly and amazing. If you're nice to someone mean- either they will feel guilty, or they will be even more annoyed. And there is nothing more satisfying than making an asshole grumpy.
So there you have it, some amazing advice, and some great anecdotes about great women who have influenced my life. What wise words have helped you get through your tough days?
