Blushing Beauties Again- Mary Kay Edition!

A few weeks ago, J had big plans to watch some serious sports in Buckhead with his buddies. It was perfect timing for my friend Lindsey- who is a Mary Kay Consultant- to stop by for a girls day. She started working with Mary Kay a few months ago, and needed to finish 30 makeovers within a few weeks- and I was MORE than happy to volunteer all of my (female) friends in Atlanta.  Mal, Kristyn, Ashley, Julie (great name, right?) and I took over the apartment. We had wine, cheese, and best of all- a box of cupcakes from A Piece of Cake, where Ashley works.

At first, I thought it was going to be some girls playing with makeup (which I'm fine with obviously!) but it turned out to be very informative. Lindsey gave us a TON of great information about skincare. I am obsessed with all things french, and I read once that French women spend hardly any money on makeup annually, but they spends thousands on their skincare routines. I wish I could say I had that dedication, but if you saw the mascara streaked towels in our bathroom, you'd definitely know I'm not embracing my inner Parisian.

After we all washed our faces using some awesome products- we each got to choose a makeover set based on our skin tones. Surprise, surprise, guess who was the palest person there? The color scheme I selected is above:

Mal & Kristyn studying their color options

After we selected our colors, we each got these awesome handheld mirrors (where can I find one of these? It would be PERFECT for travel!) and mini brushes. We started with eyeshadow.

Kristyn is a professional, while Mal is just a weirdo. Just kidding, Mal is actually amazing at makeup. I make her do mine whenever we go out.

Seriously. Still being weird.

Julie & Ashley midway through.

Lindsey was super informative- we learned all about complimentary colors, skin tones, and most of all- the products! I've always kind of thought Mary Kay was an "old lady" brand (sorry to the fans out there!) because the only product I've really used is sunscreen (which is AMAZING by the way). They are trying really hard to appeal to a younger demographic, and they're doing a great job!

My favorite part was the lipstick! It was almost like a temporary tattoo- you just peel off the front "sticky" part, and kiss the paper!

This is where Mal gets serious.

The finished products! Don't they look great? And all from a little piece of paper!!

Of course when all was said and done, we each bought some products. I broke my Lorac eye palette a few weeks ago (and I've had it for almost two years, oops!) and I was in the market for some color. I'm pretty low key when it comes to eyeshadows, either I don't use them, or I go with a champagne/skin colored cream eyeshadow.  But sometimes, you need to get a little crazy! I bought this little number below:

Doesn't look like your Grandma's makeup anymore, right?  The Mary Kay @ Play collection is full of adorable, bright colors and fun packaging. I was totally surprised. I have been using this eyeshadow a ton, and absolutely loving it.

I NEVER thought I'd host a Mary Kay party- I'm not salesy at all, and it's always seemed like a cheesy concept to me. I was SO WRONG. We had such a great afternoon, and it was so fun to play with makeup, be around girls, drink some wine, and get ourselves pretty!  Plus- as the hostess, I got a little bit of free swag, which an unexpected surprise! If you're interested in hosting a party, contact Lindsey here and she will get you all set up.

What do you think of Mary Kay? Would you wear their new products?

  1. Well. This post paints me in an ADORABLE light. Not. Whatever, it's pretty true to real life.
