Why are there so many songs about rainbows?

Anyone who knows me knows I love the Muppets. When I was younger, we didn't really have TV. Living on the side of a mountain in nowhere Idaho, we got like, one and a half channels. But every day, I could watch Sesame Street. And thankfully, the Bonner County Library had many Muppet movies, all of which I checked out many times. Tonight, J and I were driving home from dinner and we passed the Center for Puppetry Arts and I saw that a Muppet Sing Along is playing, hosted by one of Jim Henson's daughters. You're joking yourself if you think I'm not going. And yes, I will be the oldest person there, and probably the only person crying. But seriously.  For today's Blogtember topic, we're talking about advice: Thursday, September 5: Pass on some useful advice or information you learned and always remembered.

Have you ever thought about why the Muppets are all different colors? Why Bert and Ernie's sexual orientations are ambiguous at best (duh, they're gay)? Because Jim Henson believed in equality. Race, gender, species, orientation- it didn't matter. Each Muppet is unique and wonderful in their own way, and designed that way purposefully. There have been so many magical moments in my journey with the Muppets- but one piece of advice from Kermit the Frog has ALWAYS stuck out to me the most:

I dare you to find something more beautiful than that statement right there. If there is only one thing we can be in our lives, one thing we can do each day that would make this world a better place- it's to just plain be nice.

The best thing about the Muppets is, there's always a piece of advice for us no matter what the situation. Sometimes when I'm sad and feeling really crappy about myself, I listen to "It's Not Easy Being Green" to remind myself: "I am green, and it'll do fine. It's beautiful, and I think it's what I want to be"When I'm upset at the state of the world and am losing faith in humanity, there is nothing more uplifting than playing "The Rainbow Connection".

And, in case you can't identify with any of those, here are a few more genius pieces of advice from my favorite frog:
